About John

A Swiss national, John is qualified both as Swiss attorney-at-law and English Solicitor. He holds an LL.M. from LSE. John practices in China since 2003. He gained additional expertise in foreign investment while chairing SwissCham Beijing then China. He joined Global Law Office, a Chinese law firm, in 2008. John is the first Swiss lawyer to have ever joined a Chinese law firm. Besides, he practices in Switzerland with Swisslegal. Before coming to China, John worked with Lalive in Geneva, a law firm dedicated to international law. He advises foreign and Chinese clients in international commercial matters, in particular foreign investment in and trade with China. He is fluent in English, French and German.


About the book

John published "Chinese Business Law", a commentary of the same, in July 2026 with Staempfli, a major Swiss legal publisher. This book addresses the formidable development of Chinese business law over the recent years. While primarily aimed at foreign lawyers, it is also intended for Chinese lawyers by facilitating the explanation of concepts typical of Chinese law, relating and comparing them with similar notions common in Western jurisdictions. It focuses on the foundations of Chinese business law, which are often ignored or misunderstood, have seldom been commented on in English, or whose commentaries are obsolete given the recent and profound overhaul of the law, including but not limited to the 2019 Foreign Investment Law, the 2020 Civil Code, including the law of contracts and of liability, and the 2023 revision of the Company Law.

Marshall has 17 years extensive project experience in FSA. His functional expertise ranges from market analysis to strategy formulation and organization change support. Marshall has extensive project experience with organisation/process transformation, market strategy, market analysis and M&A with SMEs from DACH region. Before joining Fiducia, Marshall worked for nearly ten years at companies in China including Google and the ERP company Efuture. Marshall holds an MBA from HKUST, speaks fluent Mandarin, Cantonese and English and is experienced in dealing with clients in a cross-cultural working environment.

Ivy Yang is Regional General Counsel of Asia Pacific at Bobst, one of the world's leading suppliers of substrate processing, printing and converting equipment and services for the label, flexible packaging, folding carton and corrugated board industries. She oversees the commercial legal department for all brands and divisions of Bobst Group in the APAC region, covering China, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Southeast Asia and Australia.  Her role spans a broad spectrum of corporate work including regulatory and internal investigations, restructuring and M&A, corporate governance, and commercial contracts. In the past three years, Ivy has served as a board member and general secretary of SwissCham Shanghai, along leading legal and compliance committee.
