Ypsomed is a leading independent medical technology company and a world pioneer in the field of self-injection systems. The company specializes in the development, manufacturing, and sale of premium injection pens, auto-injectors, and wearable devices, primarily serving the diabetes and multi-dose therapy markets.

Ypsomed Asia-Pacific Base (Changzhou):

In October 2022, Ypsomed established its first Asia-Pacific production base in Changzhou, covering a land area of approximately 23 acres. Utilizing fully automated production processes, the facility is designed to manufacture 20 million units of next-generation portable self-injection devices annually.

Driven by strategic expansion and high market demand, Ypsomed announced a new investment of EUR 100 million in July 2024 to add new production lines. This expansion is expected to increase the annual output by 59 million units, solidifying its position as a key player in the Chinese healthcare market.

CHANGZHOU, Jiangsu, June 12, 2026 — For the seventh consecutive year, Swiss and European business leaders convened in Changzhou National Hi-tech District. Under the theme "New Connections, New Green Chain: Resilience and Sustainable Reconstruction for Multinational Enterprises,"SwissCham China – Shanghai and the Changzhou National High-Tech Zone co-organized a full-day event at the Sino-Swiss (Changzhou) International Industrial Innovation Park (SCIP). Nearly 50 members and representatives from Swiss and German companies participated in a comprehensive program featuring factory visits, keynote presentations, and open panel discussions, all centered on driving sustainability within the precision manufacturing value chain.

The programme opened with a keynote by Annic Ding, Chief Dual Carbon Officer and Head of Customs Compliance at Mettler-Toledo China, who also oversees Asia-Pacific distribution and warehousing logistics. His address highlighted the Changzhou plant's September 2025 induction into the WEF Global Lighthouse Network for Customer Centricity—one of the framework's five pillars alongside productivity, supply-chain resilience, sustainability, and talent. Annic detailed a transformation journey driven by 49 Industry 4.0 use cases, including AI-powered product configuration, modular reconfigurable workstations, and machine-learning-based closed-loop welding inspection. These innovations have yielded significant operational gains: a 98.4% on-time delivery rate, a 22% reduction in lead times, and an impressive customer Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 84.9.

Moderated by Sophia Slingerland, Vice-President of SwissCham China - Shanghai and Founder and Chairwoman of SHINE Ecological Technology, the panel brought together practitioners from across the precision manufacturing ecosystem: Steve Ji, Country MD China at Rieter; Lohalf Lu, GM at Suzhou Benninger Küsters Machinery; and Esther Paez, Head of Sustainability and Impact at bluesign technologies.

The discussion ranged across six themes — from the tension between efficiency and sustainability, to verified data versus self-reported claims, EU regulatory requirements under CSDDD, ESPR and the Digital Product Passport, circularity and bio-based materials, cross-value-chain collaboration, and green talent development.

A key insight emerged through the session: the WEF Lighthouse framework evaluates factories across five dimensions — productivity, supply-chain resilience, sustainability, talent, and customer centricity. No single company captures all five. But as moderator Sophia Slingerland observed, when you look across all the companies together, every dimension is represented. Sustainability, at scale, is a value chain property — not a single-factory achievement.

The interactive Q&A drew lively audience participation, with delegates sharing firsthand perspectives on verified Scope 3 data, science-based targets, and what it truly means to make sustainability a competitive advantage rather than a compliance cost.

Established in 2003 and now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Luxshare Precision (300447.SZ), LEONI operates three state-of-the-art facilities in Changzhou specialising in automotive single-core wires, data cables, high-voltage and charging cables. Participants toured the production floor and engaged directly with company leadership on full-chain operations, quality management, and LEONI's green cable roadmap — including the LIMEVERSE line, which targets up to 50% lower CO₂ versus conventional cables.

The delegation also visited Ypsomed Asia-Pacific Base (Changzhou) — the Swiss medical technology company's first Asia-Pacific production facility, established in October 2022. They observed the production lines firsthand and learned about Ypsomed's commitment to NetZero across its entire value chain by 2040, validated by SBTi.

Cross-Border Collaboration and Outlook

The event underscored the enduring strength of the Sino-Swiss industrial partnership in Changzhou. The Sino-Swiss Industrial Park has to date attracted 35 international leading projects with total investment exceeding RMB 5 billion, and projected annual sales surpassing RMB 10 billion at full capacity. 31 Swiss companies are now rooted in Changzhou High-Tech Zone, including Mettler-Toledo, Rieter, Georg Fischer, Ypsomed, and Givaudan — making the zone one of the most concentrated clusters of Swiss industrial presence in China.
